National Highway
The Midwestern Highway (SH6) travels through the Shire from Hay to West Wyalong, funded by the Federal Government with maintenance undertaken by RMS.

State Roads
Burley Griffin Way (MR84S) and The Kidman Way (MR80 & 410S) traverse the Shire and are funded by the RMS with a maintenance agreement undertaken by Carrathool Shire.

Regional Roads
Carrathool Shire has six regional roads within its boundaries. They are Mossgiel Road (MR80 Hillston-Mossgiel), Tabbita Lane (MR244 & 7606), Rankins Springs Road (MR321 Griffith-SH6), The Springs Road (MR368 Rankins Springs-Hillston), Rankins Springs Road (MR371 Rankins Springs-Lake Cargelligo) and Lachlan Valley Way (MR501 Lake Cargelligo-Wallanthery). Council maintains all regional roads with funding assistance from the State Government. The cumulative distance of the regional roads is 334.29km ranging from sealed, gravel and formed.

Local Roads
These roads are owned by Council, comprising of sealed, gravel and formed. The level of maintenance performed on gravel and formed roads are determined by the Council’s Road Hierarchy System.
