Australia Day

Our 2025 Australia Day celebration was held in Merriwagga at the Merriwagga Hall.

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, Australia day is a day to reflect on what we have achieved and can be proud of in our great nation.

This is a day where we come together as a community to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. Our celebrations reflect contemporary Australia; our diverse society and landscape, remarkable achievements and our bright future.
Council’s Australia Day awards are presented annually to local citizens and groups who have made outstanding contributions within our communities. Nominations open yearly in October closing the first week of December for consideration at the December Ordinary Council Meeting.

Carrathool Shire Council urge community members to consider nominating individuals / groups who are worthy of recognition for helping to make our shire a better place to live. Each year Council recognises and honours the outstanding achievements of those nominated whether it’s social, sporting, environmental, educational or cultural.

Nominations are now closed, award winners will be announced at the 2025 Australia Day Ceremony in Merriwagga on 26 January 2025.
